Marnie Clagett is a hot mess. She’s more than a little scatterbrained, is a complete geek, and her greatest nemesis is her google calendar.
In 2009, she started what was meant to be a part-time photography business. One year later, she was worn out and struggling, running a full-time studio with hundreds of clients, a ridiculous schedule, and only $10,000 in the bank to show for it. So, she made big scary changes, took control of her business, and ended up growing the studio into a company that sold in 2024.
Today she is serving as the Director of Content for Professional Photographers of America. She believes with every bit of her dorky little heart that if this hot mess can find success of all kinds in her studio, anyone can, and loves to prove that by helping other photographers achieve their own goals for improving their businesses and their lives.
In 2010, I found myself with the best problem: I was seriously overbooked. I hustled, skipped meals with my family, worked late nights (and early mornings), and what was supposed to be a part time job become a full time (plus) marathon. In fact, I worked more sessions in the last three months of that year than I ever have in a FULL YEAR since.
After taxes, I had a whopping $6,000 profit to show for it.
It was obvious that I had a problem. No one should do a year's worth of work for so little.
So I went to Imaging USA a month later with one mission: to figure out how to fix my business
My problem? My pricing.
I made big, scary changes and just five years later, my husband was confidently able to leave a job he hated, because the studio could support our family of four.
