Toni Shaw

How to develop your style and beat the creative block using one light

About Speaker

Toni Shaw is the principal photographer and owner of Shaw Photography Group located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Toni has studied art all her life. Early on her resume includes work in the advertising and graphic design industry. Since moving on to photography her resume includes working with companies such as Delhaize (Food Lion) Corporation, and Wells Fargo, just to name a few. She has always had a strong passion for the arts, but when encouraged by many, she narrowed her focus to photography and has found a love she has never imagined.

This year she won a grant from collaborators, the Black Women Photographers + NIKON to help support the continuation of a personal project called “The Little Icons”. A project based on helping to empower, motivate and encourage young children that have experienced a variety of challenging circumstances.

Shaw is a North Carolina based contemporary photographer, who is a free spirit but also an eclectic soul and this can be seen through her work. It is through these ambiguous and eclectic photographs that Shaw has developed a distinct signature style. Whether she is telling a story with one image, a sequence, a series, she admits, the possibilities are endless.

What you'll learn

“How can I be more creative?”  A common question among photographers is always certain to pop up on social media. The lack of confidence, and uncertainty is also certain to follow. With this program, we will look at examples of what can be accomplished with one light, natural light and a subject.

We will look at how we can keep from talking our way out of being successful. And determine what success looks like for the beginner and intermediate photographer.

Real examples, and practices will be given and shown.
